The SOTM5 PRS Lite is an 18″ 6.5 Creedmoor rifle built on Second of Ten’s billet SOTM5 receivers: a thermal-fitted MOD-0 upper over a 7075-T6 aluminum lower. The barrel, gas system, bolt, recoil parts and controls are each chosen for this cartridge and this role, and each is named below.
A note on the name
SOTM5 names the rifle; the serialized part is the lower receiver. MOD-0 names the billet upper fitted to it. PRS Lite identifies the stock configuration, built with the Magpul PRS® Lite.
//The Barrel
The barrel is the part of this rifle that most decides how it shoots, so it is the part chosen first. Second of Ten fits the Criterion Hybrid 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, and these are the features of it that matter.
//The Handguard
A free-float handguard only helps if it stays where it was put. The 15″ Midwest Industries 308 High Combat Rail HD M-LOK® is built around that.
//The Case
The barrel comes first
18″ Criterion Hybrid 6.5 Creedmoor barrel in 416R stainless with a nitride finish, 1:8 twist, 6-groove hand-lapped rifling and a JP Enterprises barrel extension. The rest of the rifle is specified around it; the detail is set out above.
A thermal-fitted billet upper
The SOTM5 MOD-0 upper is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum billet to the LR-308 DPMS high pattern, Type III hard coat anodized, with laser-engraved T-marks on the top rail. It is thermal fitted to the barrel, so the joint between barrel and receiver is an interference fit and not a slip fit. It keeps the forward assist.
Gas you can set, on a block that cannot move
A RIFLESPEED adjustable gas system lets the rifle be tuned to the load and to a suppressor. On a large-frame 6.5 Creedmoor, where ammunition varies widely, that matters more than on most rifles. The gas block is pinned to the barrel with a stainless steel coil spring pin, in line with the Bombproof by Design™ philosophy: a pinned block cannot shift the way one held by clamping or set screws alone can.
A bolt built for 6.5 Creedmoor
The Toolcraft bolt is a high-pressure 6.5 Creedmoor-specific part in 9310 steel, shot peened and magnetic particle inspected, with double ejectors for strong, consistent ejection. The firing pin is 6.5 Creedmoor specific and reduced in diameter to 0.065″, which Toolcraft specifies as extra insurance with this high-pressure cartridge.
A carrier that says what it is
The Toolcraft bolt carrier group, an 8620 steel full-auto-profile carrier in black nitride, is engraved “6.5 Creedmoor”, so it cannot be mistaken for another large-frame group on the bench or in a parts bin.
Two marks you can check
The cam pin carries the SOT arrow mark and the gas key carries an index mark across its screws. Orientation and any movement of the gas key screws can be seen at a glance, without tools.
Caliber marked inside and out
The ejection port dust cover is laser engraved with the caliber on both the interior and the exterior. The marking reads whether the cover is open or closed.
A two-stage trigger, left as made
Geissele Super Semi-Automatic® (SSA®) two-stage trigger. Second of Ten does not stone, polish or alter sear engagement surfaces.
Controls on both sides
Ambidextrous bolt release, with an enlarged paddle-style bolt catch on the left and Second of Ten’s own serrated release on the right. Ambidextrous magazine release with an enlarged left-side catch release. Radian Weapons Talon® ambidextrous safety selector.
A recoil system specified part by part
VLTOR A5 / SR-25 receiver extension, Tubb Precision flatwire buffer spring and a Forward Controls Design RBF reinforced buffer retainer, a small part that takes repeated impact on a large-frame rifle.
Titanium where the halves meet
Enhanced takedown and pivot pins, precision CNC machined from Grade 5 titanium.
Furniture for shooting from position
Magpul PRS® Lite stock and MIAD® GEN 1.1 pistol grip on a 7075-T6 aluminum billet lower, with a Breek Arms Warhammer Mod 2 AR-10 charging handle above it.

If the gas key mark is out of index
The index mark across the gas key screws is there to be checked. If the mark is ever broken or out of line, stop using the rifle and contact support@secondoften.com before firing it again.
Set the gas for the load
The adjustable gas system should be set for the ammunition in use and reset when a suppressor is fitted or removed. A setting that suits one load is not necessarily right for another.
